I’ve talked about Dudek Modern Goods before. I love the products. They fill a niche that few people know needs filling and that’s a place to put your pens. But once you fill that niche, You can’t ever go back from it. Never again shall your pens be destined to a life of cluttered abandon in your dusty, dark desk drawer. Inundated with paperclips, pennies and pocket lint. Forevermore your pens shall stand tall and proud and free!
And, as if that weren’t enough, Mike Dudek is my #mcm. There, I said it. I just love the guy. And I’m gonna scream it from the mountaintops. So, naturally, when he contacted me a few weeks ago about doing a giveaway here on the blog for one of his awesome products, I was all like, “Uh, duh. Gimme.”
One of my favorite things about Dudek Modern Goods is that it’s always changing and evolving to meet new and different needs. Mike is constantly working on new products to expand his lineup so his brand and product offering never gets stale or boring. Sometime in the last year or so, Mike started rolling out a series of blocks that incorporated a small stainless steel insert to house a small plant—like a succulent or little cactus—which are perfect for your office as they add a little pop of green while being fairly easy to maintain.
As with all of Mike’s products, these are meticulously crafted, by hand, from American Walnut in his shop at his home in Mesa, Arizona. The block you see here is The Planter. It holds 9 of your favorite pens and pencils in 1/2” holes and has a spot for the aforementioned plant. I find the 1/2” holes to be ideal for mechanical pencils, standard pens and smaller fountain pens. Some of my larger fountain pens don’t fit, but if you have some larger pens, he offers up this block with three 5/8” holes in the middle, which offers plenty of space for larger pens. Maybe you only have a few favorite pens? No worry, he’s got The Sprout which offers the same stainless insert as The Planter, but only three pen slots which are either 1/2” or 5/8” depending on your choice at checkout. Heck, maybe you don’t want to display your pens because then all of your co-workers would see all the pens you’ve stolen from them over the years (don’t look at me like that, I know what you did and you know it, too). Or maybe you have a favorite little succulent that your sweet neighbor gifted you to welcome you to the neighborhood that’s still in the little plastic pot from Lowes. Well, Mike’s got a solution for that, too. Enter, The Greenery, which is a rather cute little block with a stainless steel insert and no pen slots. Pick up one or two to sit on your window sills and let those little babies soak up some sun!
Regardless of your tiny planter needs, Mike offers up a great option for all. Plant with no pens because you’re hiding your pilfered pens in shame? No problem. The Greenery still adds a little pop of color to your workspace. Got a few favorites that you reach for everyday? The Sprout is your main squeeze. Wanna show your co-workers how much you refuse to conform to the pens they get from your office supply rep, that you have a little more class when it comes to choosing a pen? Boom. The Planter is here to save the day! Be sure and head over to DudekModernGoods.com to see all of the amazing stationery products Mike offers. There’s bound to be something that tickles your pen-lovin’ fancy.
In a world filled with technology, artificial lighting and the constant glow of screens, it’s nice to put a little of God’s Green Earth on your desk. Plants are good for you as they help purify the air in your office. And, well, there’s just something charming and sweet and hopeful that only a small plant on your desk can bring. And Mike was kind enough to give me one to give to one of my readers. How awesome is that!?
To enter, leave a comment below. Want a second chance at winning? Head over to Instagram and find my post featuring The Planter and like it. Caveat: You gotta be following me and also @dudekmoderngoods to win. I’ll check so don’t be tryin’ to sneak your entries in without seeing what Mike has on his feed. And since a planter is no good without a plant and it’s not feasible to mail this with a plant, well, planted, I’m going to throw in a $5 Lowe’s gift card so you can head on down and get your very own little succulent or cactus or whatever. (Giveaway ends at 11:59pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. Open to US Residents only, please.)
