Sometimes you come across a product that you never even knew you needed, but once you get it in front of you, you don't know how you ever lived without it. That's how I feel about The Daily by Mike Dudek at Dudek Modern Goods.
In case you haven't heard of Mike, he's the creator of amazing wooden desk accessories and he's the writer and creator of The Clicky Post, one of my go-to sites for everything pen-related. Especially Rotring. His Rotring collection puts most baseball card collections to shame. And that's just his online personality. He's a family man and just an all around swell guy. If you haven't yet, reach out to him. It's worth your time. I promise.
Now... What is this Daily? It's a wooden desk accessory that has been meticulously hand-crafted from 100% American Walnut. Yeah, the stuff your granddaddy used to build stuff out of because it's hard as a rock, lasts forever and takes on an incredibly beautiful appearance with a little stain or varnish applied. I mean... Just look at it! GAWD!
Mike carves this baby out of Walnut, as I said before, and puts in three holes for holding pens. You can get the holes in 1/2" or 5/8" sizes. I have one with 1/2" and one with 5/8" because, well, because I wanted both and holes aren't one-size-fits-all because pens aren't one-size-fits-all. Oh, and the 5/8" holes are just about perfect for holding those little plastic ink sample vials if you're using a dip pen.
Then, behind the holes is a fairly large cutout for holding notebooks or index cards or your wallet or business cards or whatever. I typically have some notebooks and business cards in one and maybe some notebooks and index cards in the other.
Having a place to "home base" your go-to pens and stationery products is handy since you won't be digging through stacks of paper to find your notebook or shuffling through supplies to find the pen you were using. I didn't really realize I needed a solution to this problem, or maybe I didn't even realize it was a problem to begin with until I started using The Daily, well... Daily.
With all practical usability aside, it's a neat way to showcase some of your favorite, most beautiful products. It's like an awesome little trophy stand. And, being that it's a beautifully hand-crafted piece of wooden awesome, it's kind of a trophy in itself. Trophies in a trophy as a trophy. IT'S TROPHYCEPTION!!!
Please take a moment to check out Mike's shop at DudekModernGoods.com and pick up a block or two. He's a great guy putting out amazing products to support his growing family the good-old-fashioned, Made-in-America way. And he does it flawlessly. His products are thoughtful, useful and meticulously crafted while still showcasing a ton of the character inherent to American Walnut (an extremely beautiful wood, in my opinion).
