Around here, we love Nock Co. If you're not familiar with them, run over to Nock.co and check them out. But not just yet... Wait 'til you're done readin' and then go. Trust me, you'll want to see this because we're talking about the brand spankin' new Nock Co. Sinclair, named after Lake Sinclair in Georgia where these babies are made.
So what's a Sinclair? Only the best darn EDC case I've ever laid my grubby mits on. It's a Cordura (nylon) case with a zippered top half and it holds three pens (or pencils or pen lights or...) on one side and a notebook (or two or some index cards) on the other. Then, down the middle, you can stuff in a cell phone, extra notebook, more pens/pencils, candy, beef jerky, whatever. The world is your oyster. If it fits, the Sinclair is the way to carry it.
For my Sinclair, I chose the brand new Woodland Camo & Black colorway and added some snazzy safety orange zipper pulls because, you know, safety and all. And if I drop it in the yard, I'll never find it without them. So yeah... Get you some bright zipper pulls. The alternate colorway for the Sinclair is another brand new option in Red & Navy with gray stitching. Being that Brad (one of the co-founders) is such a huge Atlanta Braves fan, I'm surprised this hasn't been offered before because, well, it's Braves Baseball all the way baby!
As enticing as that Red/Blue was, I ended up settling on the Woodland Camo, and I like it quite a lot. It has a fun "Army Surplus" feel to it without being overly "camo" or tacky. I live in the South and trust me, you can tacky up some camo real quick. Like, if there's a Rednecks Anonymous group, I know a bunch of people that need to visit. I think this camo pattern is subtle though, and while it might not be right at home in a boardroom, it's right at home for everything I do day-to-day.
Currently, mine is loaded out with three full-sized pens, a Field Notes Notebook and, not pictured, but always included, a box cutter, Nock Co. Index Cards, a Metal Shop Twist Bullet Pencil and an Alvin Brass Sharpener. I got this baby loaded down. But, despite the heavy load, it slides easily into my bag and doesn't take up much room. I love the Lookout 3-pen case and the Fodderstack XL single-pen/notebook case and this bad boy combines the best of both into one case and then adds a zipper for added safety and protection for your gear.
I like that the case doesn't unzip all the way around as it keeps it from 'flopping' open if you unzip it too far, especially with heavier pens, which would result in your precious cargo hitting the floor. I do think that double-zippers was a bit overkill on a case this size, but you can always just push them over to one side and use the one zipper. It's not a deal-breaker, but with zipper pulls attached, they get a little bulky and don't want to hang neatly. Sans-zipper-pulls and they nearly disappear. Perhaps just one zipper pull on your main zipper would be enough? Meh, you decide. I like the orange pop so I'm leaving mine.
As with all of my Nock Co. cases, this one is expertly crafted right here in the United States, which I love. There's not a stitch or fold out of place and the whole thing just feels like a high quality piece. No muss, no fuss. All the things you need, none of the things you don't. Except maybe that extra zipper. Unlike a lot of their cases, this one has the Nock Co. tag on the inside, which is a neat touch and keeps the branding minimal (it was already minimal so now it's double, super minimal).
I rarely part with pen/notebook cases. I typically hang on to stuff with the idea that "I might use it one day" or whatever. But, honestly, I think this guy has replaced both my Lookout and Fodderstacks (the original and XL). Will I be getting rid of those? Mmm... Maybe, maybe not. But I know I won't be using them anytime soon unless space is just a total issue and I need something as slim and portable as the Fodderstack. Until then, though, the Sinclair is ridin' shotty with any number of pens, pencils and paper.
This camouflage, half-zip, three-pen bad boy is dropping at Nock Co. this week like bombs from a B-52. Pick one up and then go ahead and toss in some notebooks, index cards and zipper pulls with your order. You're gonna want 'em. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think about the Sinclair or other Nock Co. cases. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for reading,
Disclaimer: I purchased this Sinclair with my own money. I wasn't paid or coerced or whatever to do this first look of the product. These thoughts are my own, yada yada. Brad and Jeff are awesome and I consider them friends, but to show I'm not a loyalist, I'll say that I think Jeff looks better with a beard and Brad, well, do you even own a non-plaid shirt, man? There... Y'all don't be whinin' that I'm playing favorites.
